Hell, hope its ok to start a new thread, I always find posts get a bit lost and not read in jsut one huge thread about the spidey suit. Anyway has ayone got any good tips or advice on how to shade the suit to give it that extra edge. I know airbrushing is used, but what sort of paint/dye?

Hi, welcome to the forum. Airbrushing wasn't used in the originals, but it's a great alternative to muscle shading. You could try regular acrylic paints on a light brush, not too heavily done. You could mask them with fabric tape so it won't rip. Hope this helps !

Hey, movie one costume was silk screened. The Movie 2 costume was done by a process called Dye-Sublimation.

Dye-Sublimation? How does that work exactly?

Hi Spike, It's basically just a big printer that can print any image onto polyester / lycra. Nylon tends to melt under the high temperature process.

Sublimation requires a great deal of heat because the pores of the material are actually OPENED by the heat, and the special sublimation ink is converted to a gas under the high temperature and it filles the open pores of the material (this is why you cannot do it on natural fibers like cotton. They have no pores to open!) when the material cools, the pores close and the gas is permanently a part of the material. This is also why it leaves no texture on the material, unlike silk screening. Unfortunately, I do not have a sublimation machine large enough to do an entire suit. I can only do parts. I own a screen printing business in southern Cali. If I can, I will look into buying a large machine soon if I can justify doing other jobs with it besides just spidey suits. Right now, I do mainly mugs and whatnot.

Hey BatCave,
What would you charge to put the muscle shading and brick pattern on the suit via Sublimation if I were to cut out all of my various pieces and send them to you? Also, would I need to create the pattern and muscle shading with a program like photoshop to send to you as well?
Thanks in advance.
